Establishing the Project Itself

Sorry in advance for the somewhat vague title!

It currently seems- to me, at least- that there is an ambiguity in referring to "Haketilo and Hydrilla": it can refer to two separate (albeit related) pieces of software jointly, or collectively to a range of activities and tools defined by these two pieces of software and- in particular- the relationship between them. While this is not ruinous, and has certainly not been an issue so far, such a name seems likely to fall in the same traps as GNU/Linux in the future: emphasizing some tools at the cost of others, obscuring the exact relationships between tools (and their developers), and presenting the tools themselves as the basis of development work rather than the social/ ethical/technical goals that those tools are primarily developed for.

It might therefore be useful to establish a concept of "the project", as separate from any of the tools, with a name and the aims that Hydrilla and Haketilo are meant to achieve. It could also be used as the "topic" of the website in order to put the focus on Haketilo without giving the impression that the this is (just) Haketilo.

Feedback or rejection is welcome- I've just been thinking about this for some time and wasn't sure if it was worth the consideration.

What you're saying makes a lot of sense. Unfortunately, I don't know how best to go about this.

On the other hand, introducing a third name could cause confusion. Even though I've also been trying to avoid "giving the impression that the this is (just) Haketilo", what Nick wrote seems convincing - that "Hydrilla [...] shouldn't be promoted equally alongside Haketilo".

Perhaps we could use a name like "Haketilo collective"? It points to Haketilo as the main tool people might be interested in but also suggests there's more than 1 thing involved.

It is certainly worth consideration. If you have some different idea how we could call "the project", please also share it

That's definitely a better way- a separate name probably would be confusing, and this still avoids confusion with the tools!

I'm also happy with the specific name itself if Nick is. The only potential downside I can see is that "collective" may suggest a communist collective, which I couldn't care less about and don't expect anyone tolerable would either.

Lol! I'd never think about associating it with communists. What I thought about was the "CHATONS" collective 😸

Anyway, "collective" seems a bit serious to me. How about "Haketilo squad"? Or "Haketilo gang" (like the "free software gang")?
